Two Halfpipe events and a Rail Jam this past weekend left us with some awesome results!
Starting it off in Halfpipe on Saturday we had Everette Barnes with a silver medal and Jack O’Keefe with two Golds in the Boys Ruggie division. Then Austin Cataudo, competing in the boys Grommet division, took 2nd in the first comp and with some improvements in his run ended up with a Gold for the second comp. Sadie McKinlay brought home two Silver medals from the girls Menehune division. Declan Murphy and Wade Barnes each got a chance to stand on the podium both taking home a Bronze medal for the boys Menehune division. Breck Bensin also made improvements in her run taking 3rd in the morning and 2nd in the afternoon for the girls Breaker division. Anthony Demartino was ripping the pipe with some of the highest airs of the day and brought home a Silver medal from the boys Breaker division. Finally for the Junior Mens division Zack Savage took 2nd place in both events.
Moving on to Rail Jam, we had Elleana Sisk with a gold for the girls 9 and under division, Austin Cataudo with a silver and Jack O’Keefe with a bronze in the boys 9 and under division. Then for girls 10-13 division Breck Bensin took 2nd place. Gidget Holden took 3rd for women 14 & up and Tucker Baribault took 1st for men 14 & up. Congrats to all of our athletes who gave it their all out there last weekend.
This Thursday and Friday 2/13 and 2/14 EXTRA Training is available at Mount Snow.
As you know we had discussed doing training this Saturday 2/15 at Okemo. With the way our pipe turned out compared to theirs that will no longer be necessary. Therefore training will be at Mount Snow as usual.
Next Monday 2/17, President’s Day, Is Grommet Jam Finals! Grommet Jam athletes should go directly to Carinthia for registration and should follow the grommet jam schedule with a plan for what to do at lunch.
Monday 2/17 is also an included training day for our COMP program so be ready to shred! Athletes not participating in Grommet Jam will meet at main base as usual and following the normal 8:15am – 2:45pm schedule
Next Tuesday/Wednesday 2/18 and 2/19 there is no training. Athletes participating in all available extra training days should use this time to rest and recover.
Next Thursday/Friday 2/20 and 2/21 EXTRA training will be available at Mount Snow.
Extra training time is a great way to get a leg up in our series and is highly recommended to our more competitive athletes. Extra training is available on most Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. This is extra training and can be purchased for $70 a day. 6 and 12 packs are also available for $350 and $650. Please RSVP with Nancy and I at least 2 days ahead of time by emailing email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org . Start times are directly associated with mountain operation times. For example, if it’s a holiday week and the lifts are spinning at 8am then we will stick to our normal drop off schedule at 8:15am. On normal midweek days the lifts don’t spin until 9am, therefore we run on a 1 hour delay, meaning drop off is at 9:15am. Pick up times are based upon participation and those times will be relayed to parents and athletes morning of at drop off. Special circumstances may cause for cancelations or delays in which case this information will be relayed as soon as possible via email to those who sign up ahead of time.
Attached in last week’s blog email was a list of out of series BX and SS events for our athletes who need points for nationals and missed out on these events in our series. Please let me know what events your athletes are participating in so that we can provide coaching if 3 or more athletes are at the same event. Note that some events that are further away and multiple days may require parents to cover lodging costs in order to provide coaching.
For athletes who plan to attend USASA Nationals, Nicole has created a spreadsheet so that I can keep track of who is doing what. Please follow the link below to enter your athlete’s info. If you are having trouble with the link please just let me know what events your athlete plans to attend and what their first and last day on snow are.
Coaches flights are booked as well as our unit in copper. We will be arriving in Denver 3 days early on Monday 3/23. I’m looking to offer additional Nationals training on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 3/24, 3/25 and 3/26. My goal, if enough athletes participate, is to offer this 3 day Extra Nationals training pack for just under $500. The more people that sign up the cheaper we can offer this. This could be a huge benefit to our athletes training and could also help them work through the bugs of acclimating to the higher altitude. This training would be at Breckinridge, Keystone or potentially even Vail and coaches would stay in a small unit in Frisco. For now I have free lodging accommodations for us coaches in Denver incase this training does not sell so the extra time will not impact coaching costs for athletes participating in the standard Nationals time window. If participation is low we may still be able to provide the training at a reasonable cost by commuting from Denver. Please let me know asap if you are interested in this so we can get the ball rolling.
Clear your calendars people! Saturday March 7th will be the biggest party of the season! Join us at the ski club to help meet our goal of $15,000 and support our snowboard and freeski athletes attending nationals. Achieving this goal will allow us to provide nationals coaching as well as extra nationals training free of charge. We are putting together a raffle in addition to a lot of fun activities to help raise the funds. If every parent could please reach out to their connections and find at least one Item that we could use for the raffle or a silent auction that would be greatly appreciated. We already have some awesome stuff coming in including a Monster Energy Snowboard and Wakeboard as well as a lot of other fantastic items. If there is anyone who has connections for beverages, both adult and kid friendly, that would be greatly appreciated as well. We have a donation letter from the ski club, let me know if you need this and I will send it over. Please email me if you have anything to offer. Spread the word on this for all are welcome! More details on this event coming soon!
As always feel free to email me at email@example.com if you have any questions or concerns.
I really appreciate your time,
Head Snowboard Coach
