Stories about the unique folks who find pure joy in the mountains.

Most of us spend our weekends relaxing and blowing off steam with friends. Skip on the other hand, suits up for a day of volunteering with his second family The Mount Snow Ski Patrol. To him it’s the furthest thing from work, instead, it’s an excuse to spend the weekend helping others and giving back to the mountain community he fell in love with long ago.

An environmental contractor by day, this 45-year veteran ski patroller looks forward to weekends filled with early mornings and long days on the mountain, along with the occasional first tracks on a powder day when he’s “testing” trails on North Face. On an average weekend, you can find Skip dropping ropes as he opens new terrain, coming to the aid of skiers in their time of need, and spreading that infectious smile wherever he goes.

While his fellow patrollers all feel like family to him, some of them, in fact, are, including his daughter Ashley and son-in-law Porter, who met and began dating while patrolling a few years back. In the spirit of keeping it in the family, we also wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t have a tiny red vest ready for his new grandson Wilder who we’re sure will follow in the family tradition.

To know Skip is to truly know the heart and soul of this mountain, and what keeps generation after generation coming back year-in and year-out to pass along their love of snow.

We hope you enjoy the fourth episode in our #WeLoveSnow series, see you on the slopes!
