We Love Snow: The Petersons

Tuesday, October 16, 2018

“The work week is over. The school week is over. It’s now family time.”

It’s that time of year again. The leaves having finished their final performance have now fallen from the very same trees we’ll soon be ripping through on the first powder day of the year. Now is the time to pick up your Peak Pass , commit to buying those new skis you’ve been dreaming of, and start hitting refresh on the snow report for that opening day announcement. It’s that time of year when we all remember the ties that bind us all, that simple mantra: We Love Snow.

This love of snow can manifest itself in as many unique ways and shapes as the flakes that fall upon our mountain. Whether you ski 5 days or 50, it comes down to the simple joy, freedom, and relaxation that comes with gliding down the mountain. The feeling you get from letting go of your everyday cares and instead simply focusing on living in the moment.

For the Petersons their love comes from being together as a family in the mountains. And with 10-year-old triplet boys and a 12-year-old girl, Vermont offers plenty of space for the kids to explore. At the end of the work week, the Peterson’s jump in their car and head north to their second home at Mount Snow. On the way, they dream about what the snow is like, what trails they’re going to ski, and which friends will be sharing in the fun that coming weekend.

Once they’re settled in their home at Mount Snow, the weekend routine kicks in, and the Petersons enter their relaxation zone. Mornings usually start before dawn with the boys acting as a natural alarm clock, as their excitement for the day wins out over the need to sleep. Mom and Dad wake to the sounds of kids playing downstairs and know the weekend has arrived. After breakfast, the kids gear up before walking as a family past the new Carinthia Base Lodge and over to the Nitro Lift, where they start each and every day on the snow. Once on the lift, the kids are free to roam, whether it's heading off to a lesson, or calling for Mom and Dad to “hurry up,” “check out these trees,” or “watch me hit this jump!” For Mom and Dad, it’s a welcome opportunity to watch their kids grow, make new friends, and to start to form a lifelong love of snow.

Weekends in the mountains are about more than just skiing and snowboarding. It’s about sharing a passion for your sport, relaxing, and reconnecting as a family, and being part of a vibe and a community where they’ll feel welcome for the rest of their lives.

It’s folks like The Petersons who make what we do here at Mount Snow so very worth it, and why they were the perfect fit for this year’s We Love Snow series. Follow with us as we explore the stories and memories that make Mount Snow what it is, and share your own with us with #welovesnow
