Snowmaking Has Begun

Thursday, November 10, 2016

The start of snowmaking is officially here for the 2016-2017 winter season.

It’s really happening! I can’t even express in words how happy that makes the entire team here at Mount Snow.

This is the moment we’ve all been patiently waiting for since our snowmaking team first started rolling out the snow guns in September. Our hopes were then buoyed by an initial cold snap in late October that brought with it half a foot of natural snow to blanket the valley , but with the start of snowmaking operations last night, we can officially start talking about an opening day!

Right now, looking at the long-range forecast, we’re still aiming to open for top-to-bottom skiing operations on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016, just in time for the Turkey Hangover Hillclimb . That being said, as I look at the 10-day, I’m cautiously optimistic that we might be able to get those lifts spinning early if we get the right mix of cold nights and cloudy days.

Speaking of lifts, if you haven’t yet heard, our lift mechanics have been hard at work over at Carinthia installing our newest lift Grommet , which will be taking the place of Ski Baba in order to offer our groms better access to the park and a more enjoyable experience at our Grommet Jams.

So, for those of you at home, keep up the snow dances, start burning sacrificial skis to appease Ullr, plan that first ski trip of the season , and most importantly, Think Snow!

See you on the slopes!
