Mount Snow Minute #12: Fresh Powder, Mardi Gras, & Valentines Day
Wednesday, February 7, 2018
What a week! We started things off with 10” of fresh snow on Monday, 2” on Tuesday, a forecasted snowfall of 12-14” for Wednesday, and then another storm on Friday that will bring with it another 4-6” or so. All told, we’re looking at the potential for 28-32” in a single week, so if you haven’t bought your tickets for the weekend yet, hurry up and don’t miss out. Also, this is the perfect time to swing by the demo shop in The Cape House and test out a pair of powder skis. It’s amazing the difference and float you can once you step up to a fatter ski.
Thanks to this snow we’ve seen ropes dropping and trails re-opening all over the mountain, and this next storm is slated to get us back to 100% open terrain. So, for all of you looking to get those Ripcord laps in, this weekend is your time to get that practice in for Gladiator in the Spring. As for which trails to ski, I’m going to leave that up to you, but my power day protocol goes like this: Free Fall, Plummet, Olympic, and then Drifter to Ledge, followed by a few lines through the woods that I won’t be sharing here. Also, while it may seem counterintuitive, Carinthia is a great place to lap on a powder day.
Coming up for the weekend, we’ve got our annual Mardi Gras celebration. Join us as Mount Snow transforms into Bourbon St. complete with après ski parties starting in Cuzzins from 11 am on into the evening, with live music in the afternoon, plus more music that night at the Snow Barn. Be sure to join us from 11am-5pm in the Bud Light Beer Garden next to the Cuzzins deck for some fun in the sun, before Cuzzins transforms at 3 pm into a Masquerade Party complete with beads and masks!
Oh, and what would Mardi Gras be without beads? We will have over 12,000 to giveaway in lift lines, lodges, parties, and other locations all day long!
Then on the 14th, come celebrate Valentine’s Day at Mount Snow in the most romantic way possible: by renewing your vows, or even getting married, on the mountain at the top of Cloud Nine. We already have three couples signed up that will be tying the knot, along with another estimated 30-40 couples that will be renewing their vows. So ladies and gentlemen, if you’ve been waiting for the right time to take the plunge, this could be it! You bring the rings, we’ll provide the justice of the peace.
Well, that’s all for now, I’m off to sample the goods in preparation for a day of storm skiing and free refills from a storm that is slated to dump 2” per hour for most of the afternoon.
See you on the slopes!
