Mount Snow Minute #10: Olympics, Presidents Week, and Snow
Tuesday, January 23, 2018
Hard to believe that January is almost over and done with, it seems like just yesterday that we were still pretending we’d actually follow through on those resolutions. While some of you may be wishing that we had a bit more time, I for one say “bring on February!” Why you might ask? Because February is our historically snowiest month, and while we’ve already had a few good storms so far this season, I could absolutely use a few more days filled with 10-12” overnight totals with free-refills all day long. But that’s not the only thing to look forward to in February, there’s plenty more to be excited about.
First and foremost, we’ve got the Winter Olympics, that amazing celebration of everything we love about winter sports, and one of the few times we all pretend to understand and enjoy watching curling. These Olympics hold a special place in the hearts of Mount Snow fans and families, as we have three athletes who have grown up and trained at Mount Snow that will be representing our country this year. First up, Devin Logan, who has once again qualified for skier Halfpipe and Slopestyle, and as you might remember won silver in Olympic Slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Next up, we’ve got Emerson Smith, who grew up here in Dover, and will be competing in moguls for his first Olympic showing. Last but surely not least, we have Caroline Claire who will also be competing in Women’s Slopestyle, and who can often be found lapping Carinthia Parks. We wish them all well, and can’t wait to see what kind of hardware they bring home with them.
Also, in February we’ve got President’s Week, and no that’s not a typo, what started out as a weekend full of events has swelled to encompass an entire week bookended by two event-packed weekends, so if you haven’t checked it out, get on it. We’ve still got some great deals on tickets and vacation packages available, but as you know the earlier you buy, the more you save, so don’t delay. Follow the link for more information about events during this week.
And now on to the important part, snow! After Mother Nature’s little temperature tantrum on Tuesday, our grooming fleet got out as soon as things set up to reset the mountain, and get it back to the level you all expect from us. For those of you joining us this weekend, we’re going to be resurfacing a number of our fangun trails on Friday to set things up nicely for a Saturday that right now is looking like 40s and sunny! As we head into Sunday things are going to cool back off and we’re going to see some natural accumulation. After that, we’ll be assessing a full resurfacing program depending on how the rest of the week shapes up so that we’re primed and ready for all that natural snow that February is sure to bring with it.
Well, that’s all for now. I’m off to spin a few laps.
