GM Blog: Lucky #50

It always amazes me how much people love to ride our golden chairs – especially kids.  I rode up with one young girl (we missed the golden chair – it was right in front of us) and she told me that if you ride the golden chair you can make a wish and it comes true.

For those of you who don’t know the story about our golden chairs or if you’ve never visited Mount Snow before, here goes.

Mount Snow opened in 1954 and we have a very colorful history.

When we celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2004, we threw a yearlong birthday party and gold was our theme color.

Each chair on a lift is numbered.  For instance, on the Grand Summit Express there are 172 chairs, and all are numbered.  In preparation for our anniversary we painted several of the #50 chairs gold.  We thought it would be a fun little surprise.  Little did we know how much fun a bucket of paint could provide.  In fact, six years later you can find seven #50 chairs painted gold.

So, where are these golden chairs?  Here are a few hints.  Mount Snow has twenty lifts total.  Five of our lifts are surface conveyors, like our longest at the covered bridge.  Eleven of our lifts have more than fifty chairs and chair #50 is painted gold on seven of these.  Four of our lifts have less than fifty chairs so you will not find a golden chair at these lifts.  Three of our most popular lifts have a golden chair and you can find a golden chair on all four mountain faces – happy hunting!

When it comes to ski resorts, bigger is generally better. How many trails do you have?  Do you have a 6-pack?  How steep are your trails?  How much snow did you get?  With Christmas just around the corner it is easy to get caught up in the grandeur of it all.  Like our golden chairs, it is nice to remember that sometimes it is the little things that make the difference.  Maybe you will get lucky this winter and get to ride up in a golden chair.  If you do, don’t forget to make a wish!
