This building is located at the top of Bear Trap, skiers left, before you start down the trail.  It was installed by the Green Mountain National Forest Service and is an IMPROVE monitoring station.  IMPROVE stands for Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments and was initiated in 1985 to implement a long term monitoring program to track visibility.  In a nutshell, it is a collection venue for air quality data .  On the side of the building is more information about the IMPROVE network...if you have a minute, it is worth the read.

Did you know that of the 2,541 acres that Mount Snow manages, 894 acres are within the Green Mountain National Forest?  Mount Snow has operated under a Special Use Permit issued by the Forest Service and administered by the Green Mountain National Forest since 1956.  The GMNF land is the upper part of the mountain and includes the North Face and Sunbrook.
