All Mtn Devo 2.1-2.2.20

Friday, January 31, 2020

This past weekend:
Thanks to the hard work of our freestyle coaches, who were on the hill extra early Saturday, building, shaping, & shoveling, all our groups got the chance to enjoy some great moguls on Lower Exhibition.
Our Mogul Day Competition was a huge success with lots of great turns & big air for all levels of participants.
Congratulations to everyone, especially our finalists & overall winners.
Huge shout out to our Judges & MC for keeping the crowds entertained throughout the morning.
Aside from the moguls, coaches & athletes introduced SKATING exercises.  As with any exercise there are a million different ways to do them & it can be done uphill, across the hill, downhill, into a turn, out of a turn. The purpose of this exercise is to focus on engaging a flex in the ankle and a push against the ski.  Skating is not just gliding, it is an active movement & should be forcing that ankle to 'close'.
Plans for this weekend:
Continuing to build on the tasks introduced in previous weekends, groups will continue focusing on mastery of outside to outside ski turning, skating & shuffling.  Our prime focus is on getting skis properly aligned under the body during all phases of a turn.
Saturday we will have a race course set on Charlie's Chase
Sunday will be exploratory skiing, as well as, skill stations set on Lower Ego
Events Note:
Our Crazy Hat event is only a few weekends away.  Make sure to start preparing those crazy hat (helmet) ideas.  Prizes will be awarded to a number of winners for a variety of different 'bests'!  If you have questions, ask your coach for additional info.
Also, please note that we have just added a new event to the schedule.  Similar to an event that our Alpine Comp teams participate in, On Saturday March 14, Devo will be hosting a Development Team Skills Day!  Based on USSA's SkillsQuest, participants will navigate (3) skills stations where they will demonstrate to a panel of judges their basic understanding & execution of our season long goals.  Participants will have an opportunity for a practice run where they will be provided direct feedback from the judges on their overall performance and then have a scored run (scale of 1 - 10) on their execution of the task(s).
SkillsQuest is a cornerstone program of the Alpine Training System (ATS) designed to motivate and reward athletes in working toward and improving abilities in the key areas of emphasis of the ATS. As its name implies, it represents a quest, or journey, toward success in skiing, by focusing on skills, the critical components that make up a high performing skier. It includes activities and competencies for skiing skills, technique and tactics, conditioning, equipment preparation, performance psychology and skier management.
