Mount Snow To Complete Long John Trail Widening Project One Year Early

Mount Snow, VT. – Sept. 11, 2017 – In a summer already jam-packed with construction projects aimed at improving its skiing and riding experience, Mount Snow is pleased to announce that it has begun widening its Long John ski trail for the upcoming season. Originally scheduled as a summer project for 2018, Mount Snow managers decided to undertake the widening project after their $30 million snowmaking upgrade, known as the West Lake Water Project, began running comfortably ahead of schedule.

“Anyone who’s skied Long John in the past knows that it could benefit from widening, especially on a busy weekend,” said Kelly Pawlak, general manager at Mount Snow. “In widening this green circle trail by 35 feet, we will be making it a more inviting place for beginner skiers looking to explore the mountain from the summit, as well as those looking to access our Carinthia Base Area.”

The blasting, done by Gardiner, Maine-based Maine Drilling and Blasting, began Friday, September 8, 2017, and will continue through October 13, 2017. During this time, the company will blast through 45,000 yards of rock, along 1,600 feet of trail, just 3,800 linear feet below the summit of Mount Snow, with the goal to widen the trail in that area by 35 feet on average.

“We’re thrilled to be able to undertake this project this year,” said Kevin Harrington, mountain manager at Mount Snow. “I can’t thank our team enough for all the hard work they’ve put in this summer, and I truly feel like our guests and passholders alike will have one of their best winters to date.”

As a result of the ongoing blasting project, the popular hiking trail to the summit, known as the Mount Snow Trail or Yellow Trail, will be closed for the duration of the project, with hikers rerouted to the Highline or Pink Trail.
