Do I need a license to race as a beginner?
To participate in any of the competitive events at Mount Snow you will need a license issued by USA Cycling. If you do not have an annual license and are riding in expert of pro you must have an annual license. All other categories can purchase a one day license at registration. If you are going to be racing at Mount Snow often you should purchase a license online from USA Cycling at www.usacycling.org
Do I need to be an expert rider?
No, riders start out in a first timer class and receive points in the beginner class. Riders work their way up. We have riders as young as 12 years old, and some riders too old to admit their age, all at varying degrees of ability. The only real requirement is that the rider be able to control the bike.
How are categories broken down?
The SoBe Energy DH Series will utilize the following age categories:
- Male:
- Beginner**: 18 & under, 19-29*, 30-39*, 40+
- Sport: 18 & under, 19-29*, 30-39*, 40+
- Expert: 18 & under, 19-29*, 30-39*, 40+
- Pro: Open
*If a 19-29 or a 30-39 category features over 25 riders we will break down the category to a five year breakdown.
**First timers will be placed in beginner classes and given points based on their finish within that category following the competitor’s first race of the season.
All women categories are open unless numbers increase.
How do I register by mail?
We do not accept entries by mail, fax, or over the phone. We only accept on-line pre-registration and on-site registration Saturday from 9am – 4pm only. No Sunday on-site registration. Pre-registered athletes can pick up their number plates on Sunday between 9am-11am.
Where will I find the most information regarding each race event?
Each week we’ll be updating our website with news on the left hand column. There is where you’ll find any changes and/or information about the upcoming events. We will also be working on sending out email news blasts before and after each event. Bustedspoke.com also is a great resource for all information about our series and others in New England and the Northeast.
What about safety gear?
You need a long sleeve shirt, long pants, closed soft sole shoes (no sandals or dress shoes), and a helmet with mouth guard. Gloves are highly recommended, but not required. Elbow and knee pads are also highly recommended. If you need replacements, forgot your equipment, or just need some new stuff, Mount Snow Sports at the Grand Summit carries a huge line of accessories, safety gear, and even downhill bikes.
Do I need to remember my number plate at each race?
Yes. The number plate you receive at your first race will be your number plate for all the DH & the DS events in 2008. Bring it with you for all the SoBe Energy DH/DS events. If we need to replace your number plate it will cost you an additional $10.
Can I bring my dog to the events?
Both Mount Snow and Attitash prohibit dogs on property. We love dogs but not all dogs get along with other dogs and other people. Please do not bring your dog to our events. If we see your dog on property you will be asked to leave and will forfeit your race entry and any result.
Is camping allowed at Mount Snow or Attitash?
We do allow RV Camping at the Sundance Base Lodge parking lot at Mount Snow but there are no services and waste must be taken with you. Tent camping in any parking lot or on Mount Snow or Attitash property is not permitted. Camping is available at Molly Stark State Park 10 miles from Mount Snow and there are numerous camp sites along Route 302 near Attitash.
When does on-line registration end for each event?
Online registration ends at 3am Thursday night (Friday morning) before each race weekend. Don’t wait register early..
Is there a price break for registering for multiple events?
SoBe Energy Season Passes are available though the second race (June 21-22) of the season. These season passes will save you more than one entry fee for the season.
How many races are counted in the overall points?
This year we have 6 downhill races (four at Mount Snow, two at Attitash). Of these six races you can miss one race, except for the finals, and not be penalized. The last two events of the season September 5-6 at Attitash and the Finals September 27-28 at Mount Snow are double point events so you won’t want to miss those. If you make all six events your lowest point weekend will be dropped.
Dual Slalom you must make all 3 events to qualify to be the series champion.
If I move up will I lose my previous points?
No the new point system allows riders to upgrade without losing the points they’ve already earned.
