Kelly's Blog: Thanks 10th Mtn Division

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Today I received a call from Frank.  Frank is a member of the 10th Mountain Division and called to let me know that he skied last year (he's 90) but has decided to hang up his skis.

Unfortunately, one of his collegaues, another Frank from right here in Dover, passed away last year.  He remarked that he was one of the last 10th Mountaineers.  Frank thanked me for all the years he skied at Mount Snow.  I was so touched.  In a clumsly sort of way I think I managed to convey that it is all of us who are thankful to him and all of the 10th Mountain Division who went to war and fought for us.  He humbly mentioned that he doesn't think of it as being much.

Frank started skiing when he was four on 4 ft skis and the rubber from tire tubes repurposed as bindings.  You never know who you will sit next to on the Bluebird.  It may be someone as passionate about skiing as Frank.  Thank you Frank for making my day.
