Devo Weekend 12/17-12/18

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

We had an amazing first weekend in Devo. Over 200 Development Team members showed up for our season opener. Fresh machine made snow and good grooming gave us a great surface to ski on for our first weekend.

This week’s new snowfall combined with fresh machine made snow will substantially expand the skiable terrain for the upcoming weekend.

If you are new to the program and have not met your group or coach yet, we recommend you join us before Christmas week so we can get all the groups formed. New members should meet by their age sign on the slope side of the Cape House at 8:30.  A coach will ski with you and assign you to a group.

If you are a returning member, please meet at the Letter Signs slope side of the Clock Tower Building. Starting group letters were assigned to returning members by e-mail.

This weekend we will be working on some fundamental skills of skiing:
Maintaining a good skiing stance and a balanced position while in motion. Feet should be hip width apart, center of mass is stacked above the feet, hands out in front of the body, maintain ankles in a flexed forward position with a constant muscle tension in the calfs and thighs.

We will also be working on rotary skills:
Steering the skis in various turn sizes and shapes by rotating our legs from the hip sockets.
We will work on getting our legs to move independent of the upper body.
The plan is also to set some skills related brush exercises on Charlie's Sunday.

The temperature is supposed to drop by Thursday.  Please remember the hand/toe warmers, gators and layering.

Looking forward to another wonderful weekend,

Nancy Logan
