Alpine Comp 2/13 - 2/15
Wednesday, February 10, 2016
Hello Alpine Team,
The temps for this weekend are forecasted for -5 Saturday and Sunday at the base and -14 on the top. BRR! Monday is looking warmer right now. This means hand and toe warmers, neck-ups, extra layers, and Dermatone! Dermatone is oil based to keep your skin from getting frostbite. Put on any exposed skin so it won’t freeze in the wind when skiing.
When warming up make sure that you are skiing slow and making turns smaller than what you will be training. Am I a broken record with the skiing slow reminders? That is because I keep seeing athletes skiing way too fast. Please, please slow down during warm ups. The U12 age group had a very hard time skiing the courses this weekend that had tighter gate spacing. This comes from not practicing actual race-size turns when you’re not on the course. We have a lot to go over this three day weekend coming up.
You, the athlete, is responsible for focusing and making the most of your time coming and going from the course. Not going down Lodge on way to Charlie’s Chase, sitting back on your skis, going straight down the entire trail, yes that tells me that the athlete has no commitment to skiing any better that they are right now. I believe in all of you guys and think you have great potential—we just have to put it to good use!
· The program will run for three days Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
· Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next week are additional add-a-day training. We need you to r.s.v.p. to Nancy by this Saturday- you can by all four days or per day. I need the athlete counts to staff and set up training plans for these days so get you days to Nancy.
U10 - Stubbie SL for all three days this weekend
U12 – Duel GS training Saturday and Sunday getting ready for you race on Monday at Magic
U14- SL training 9:30-2:30 Saturday for race on Sunday at Magic. Monday GS training all day.
U16/19- SL on Plummet Saturday morning, GS Sunday and Monday. Let Nancy know if there is any interest in the VC SL at Pico on Monday.
A little added bonus, are you reading this blog? If you are, on Saturday tell me 3 things that this says (in person) and you’ll get a little something sweet.
